Overview

Pho Huy Restaurant, situated at 7 Beresford Ave, Beresfield NSW, is a standout destination for lovers of authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the Newcastle region. This humble yet vibrant eatery specialises in traditional pho, offering a rich tapestry of flavors that capture the heart of Vietnam’s culinary heritage while appealing to local tastes. The rare beef pho, or Pho Bo Tai, is particularly noteworthy — its broth strikes a perfect balance, light yet deeply flavorful, enhanced by tender slices of beef that melt in your mouth.

Aside from the signature beef rice noodle soup, the menu boasts a range of enticing options that reflect the diversity of Vietnamese cooking. The Vietnamese pancake (Banh Xeo) offers a crisp, savory counterpart, capturing both texture and taste. Dishes like the crispy chicken with red rice and the shaking beef with rice showcase the kitchen’s skill at blending textures and bold flavors. For those exploring plant-based choices, the Bún Chả Giò Chay provides a satisfying vegetarian alternative without compromising on authenticity.

The space itself embraces a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. It invites guests to unwind and savor their meals, evoking memories of markets and street-side eateries in Vietnam. This ambiance, paired with fresh, carefully prepared dishes, makes it an ideal spot for families, couples, and anyone seeking a genuine taste of Vietnam’s rich food culture away from bustling city centers.

Customer feedback consistently praises the freshness and quality of the food. Nate Lai calls it a hidden gem with some of the best pho in the area, while Rachel Kress highlights the delicate but robust broth and standout condiments like the house-made pickled garlic. Regular patrons such as Thi Bao Ngoc Duong appreciate the balanced broth, which caters to both Northern and Southern Vietnamese palates, and the generous portions of beef. Even with minor service hiccups noted by some, the warmth of the owner and staff enhances the welcoming feel of the restaurant.

Located a bit off the main Newcastle hustle, Pho Huy rewards those willing to travel with authentic flavors that transport you directly to Vietnam’s streets. It’s a haven for pho enthusiasts and those in search of handcrafted Vietnamese dishes prepared with care and tradition. Whether you seek a comforting bowl of special beef soup on a chilly day or a flavorful stir-fry like Ga Xao Gung, Pho Huy Restaurant delivers a memorable and genuine Vietnamese dining experience.

A hidden gem but probably hands down one of the best pho in Newcastle region. The beef soup was so flavourful and the beef was so tender. Only downside is getting here is a bit of a distance but will gladly come back again.

We have eaten at Pho Huy a number of times and each time is a reminder of our trips to Vietnam. The food is fresh light, ,large and delicious. The staff are lovely and friendly also. So glad to have such great food locally.

A phó like I haven’t had in a long time with a beautiful flavourful but light and not too sweet broth. Condiments were lovely (house made?) with the sliced pickled garlic a real standout. Also enjoyed the quiet early evening atmosphere with everyone else also clearly enjoying their food. We were only stopping as my mum was tired and needed some food but we’ve found a gem and are already planning when we can next visit. Apologies that the pics are of half way through - but you can see from the other reviews that the dishes all look lovely on arrival to the table!

Easily the best pho around Newcastle area (and I have tried most of the Vietnamese restaurants) - and so worth the extra drive. The banh xeo is also a must.

Edited: Our last 2 visits were both good and I do feel everything has improved! The Pho itself is still amazing as usual so no need more discussions. This is my magical dipping sauce of all times: (satay sauce + hoisin sauce + chilli sauce) and you can squeeze a bit of lemonade as well as adding some fresh chillies. Seriously in love with this restaurant as even all the side food served are so fresh and tasty! shout out to this best Pho!! Always come here when craving for Phở and have recommended this restaurant to many of my friends! the owner is friendly and always give us the warm welcome. The broth is adjusted to the local’s liking, which is between North and South flavour. The amount of beef varieties are generous, this yummy soup lights up my tummy every time I visit and I would return for more! Especially in cold weather. However, there is always a girl with a bad attitude and gives an annoying look every time we pay a visit. This makes us feel unwelcome and hope the girl can change to improve the experience of the customers. She also tries to speak in another language even though she knows the language that we speak while ordering since we heard she talking fluently with others, which feels weird. Anyways, the food is awesome and no surcharge applied as I know

Just ate our beef pho we picked up on our way through Beresfield today. Not normally a big fan of takeaways but after building our pho at home, the first mouthful took me instantly back to a pho restaurant in Hoian. Loved every mouthful. Will be back for sure.
